Honey, There's a Cat in the Freezer . . .
. . . Life is all about making choices. And I choose to share my home with a cuddly puppy that almost wets himself whenever he sees me. My dog, Stoney, absolutely believes I am the most wonderful person alive. Don’t try to tell him otherwise because he won’t believe you. He loves me when I am grumpy. He loves me when I’m not wearing make-up. He loves me when I have cramps, hot flashes, or bad hair days. He loves me enough to meet me at the door when I come home – his eyes sparkling, his face shining, his body twitching with excitement at the thought of just being in my presence. He loves me so much he follows me from the kitchen to the den, from the office to the bedroom. In an act of astonishing act of unconditional love, he even follows me into the bathroom, sticking close whether I am in there for a short or prolonged period of time and whether I use air freshener or not. That’s a friend!

Cathy's first book of short stories, Silver In The Slop & Other Surprises, includes the story of feeding pigs on her father’s farm with slop collected from a local restaurant - slop that often included pieces of silverware inadvertently tossed in by busy busboys who worked feverishly to keep up with hungry diners. Finding these castaway pieces of silver after the pigs had their fill - this "silver in the slop" - reminded the author, years later when she became a young widow, that "silver" can often be found in the "sloppiest" situations of life.

Have you seen the blossoms? Some call them jonquils, others call them daffodils. Whatever the name, they have one thing in common - these
Gutsy Little Flowers bloom in the winter when everything else lies dormant beneath the hard frozen ground. We, too, have our winter moments. And like the jonquils, we can bloom when all the odds are against us.
Cathy has done it again by blending a warm sense of humor, a compassion for those enduring tough times, and a rich variety of life experiences to prove that each of us can overcome and bloom, even during the winter times we encounter.

Aging, Ailments and Attitudes - that says it all! From pale hair to progressive lenses. From fine lines to facial hair. From night sweats to new ailments. If you are lucky, you will experience each of these. Lucky? Absolutely! Aging is a gift that is denied to some. So why not allow a good dose of faith and laughter to ease some anxieties of growing older? Whether discussing feisty children, temperamental dogs, frozen glaciers, or a dip in an infinity pool, Cathy's signature humor and serious contemplation teaches us that God is always near, even when we are looking into the face of death.
No doubt, we each have precious memories and wrinkled photos that take us back to our childhood days. But we also have the love of an eternal God that will see us safely to the end of this life ... and beyond.
