The Word
About Cathy Lee Phillips is . . .
My neighbor lost her
husband very suddenly. She was devastated and very alone. When I read
about your loss and how you were dealing with it, I quietly took your book to
my friend, thinking you spoke the words that I was unable to speak. She
returned the book and wrote, “Cathy spoke my words, as well as totally
captured the devastation I feel.” Thanks for sharing your story — I was
grateful to have your words for her. (Bloomington, Indiana)
You put the “TREAT” in
“RETREAT!” (Alpharetta, Georgia)
This morning I
recommended your books to one of our clients in Virginia. These wonderful
books are going to be everywhere. (Kingston, Tennessee)
It’s all your fault! I
purchased two of your books this morning. I have finished the first and am
halfway through the second. It is about 4:00 a.m. and I am still wide awake.
You can now add “Doctor of Laughter Medicine” to your awards and
accomplishments. (Blairsville, Georgia)
Cathy’s telling of her
life story and the insights gained from the trauma and grief of the death of
her husband are engaging. The purpose of her sharing is to connect with the
lives of people in her audience. We feel her pain because it is familiar. In
the sharing is the healing. You will enjoy Cathy Lee Phillips and you will
grow by knowing her. (Atlanta, Georgia)
It has been fun reading
your books. I even used a story as a sermon illustration today.
(Louisville, Kentucky)
I loved your book
Gutsy Little Flowers. My daughter-in-law loaned me her copy to read.
“Jonquils in a Fruit Jar” really touched my heart. Thanks for all you are
doing. Keep it
up!
(Snellville, Georgia)
Silver in the Slop
is easy for busy people to read because each selection is short enough to read
as a break between chores — and the spiritual lessons are a quick pick-me-up.
(Greenville, South Carolina)
I just had to let you
know how much I enjoyed
Gutsy Little Flowers.
It was so inspiring. I would be crying about one of your stories then, all of
a sudden, you would have me in stitches. It was a wonderful experience to
read your book. (Newnan, Georgia)
Silver in the Slop
is a book to be read slowly, very slowly, relishing each line, then reflecting
for a couple of days on each of the readings. That’s how I am reading and
that’s how I would recommend other folks read this masterpiece.
(Nashville, Tennessee)
I love absolutely every
story in your books. (Wichita, Kansas)
I would love to know
about your future women’s conferences because I know they must be wonderful!
I loved hearing you at annual conference and enjoyed many belly laughs as I
read your book
Aging, Ailments, and Attitudes!
Several friends have borrowed the book but because you signed it, it will stay
in my permanent library. (Atlanta, Georgia)
I want you to know —
there have been speakers, speeches, talks, etc., in my life. Know — with much
honesty and love — I’ve never been more completely enveloped in all these
others than I have yours. I read the intro and first two presentations last
night. Pink roses will be even more precious to me now. (Gainesville,
Georgia)
I have been reading
your books this morning and have tears running down my face both from the
laughter and from the sweet, sweet sadness conveyed in each book. I intend to
share your stories with others, and do hope that we can get you to conduct our
Ladies Retreat. (Chamblee, Georgia)
God bless you for the
talent you brought to our church. (Jacksonville, Florida)
I believe you have many
and varied gifts for ministry you will find opportunity to use for the sake of
God’s Kingdom. Already we see that you are making a tremendous impact.
(Wilkesboro, North Carolina)
I really admire the way
you find God’s presence and life lessons in each challenge that comes . . .
Your sharing of yourself in your writing is really a great gift, and I’m sure
that gift touches all who read your books. (Dahlonega, Georgia)
We live in a world that
NEEDS more people like you. Even though it is obvious you have been through
much adversity, God has given you the ability to still shine! Keep up the
good
work!
(Bennettsville, South Carolina)
It must be something in
the water in Newnan for two great people to have been born and raised there.
I am referring to you and one of my Heroes, Lewis Grizzard. I read all of his
books and cried when Lewis was called home. Both of you through your books
make me laugh and cry and feel very humble and good about myself. Keep up the
good work for me and Lewis. Please send me a copy of anything you publish and
I will pay whatever the cost. You have a new fan for life. (Atlanta,
Georgia)
I wanted to tell you
how blessed I was to have met you. Your book is very inspiring. I laughed
and cried all at the same time. There were some things I could relate to with
my own experiences in life. It was in God’s plan for me to have met you.
(Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania)
Words are inadequate to
describe how you touched my life. (Marietta, Georgia)
My wife came home from
the Minister’s Spouse Retreat singing your praises and carrying
Silver in the Slop.
I sat down and read it from cover to cover. It’s an excellent book and I’ve
already shared the very first chapter with my staff for a devotional. They
loved it! You always have had a wonderful sense of humor and a brilliant way
of expressing yourself. Thanks for sharing it in this
way. (Duluth,
Georgia)
What a wonderful night
we had. Cathy Phillips is fantastic! Everyone fell in love with her. She
was so in tune with our ladies and what they have gone through. The Holy
Spirit was present in her presentation, thrilling our ladies as well as staff
and volunteers. We want her to come to our church again! (Dacula, Georgia)
Your books arrived
today. I was like a little child anxiously tearing open the parcel!
(Dunlap, Illinois)
The world needs more
stories such as yours, more motivational and inspiring speakers and musicians
that can lift us with a word and give us a glimpse of the hope that sustained
them (and you) through crisis after crisis. (Nashville, Tennessee)
I’m sitting in my
kitchen looking at a bouquet of “jonquils in a fruit jar” and praying for you
and your ministry. I’ve always enjoyed my jonquils coming up in the winter,
but this year they mean more than ever! (Chesterfield, Missouri)
You are a wonderful
speaker and I look forward to reading to reading all your books. You are so
precious! (Augusta, Georgia)
Thank you for speaking
at our church. And thank you for the comfort and inspiration in the three
books I so wisely purchased that day. (Cornelia, Georgia)
Thank you for your
heartwarming and encouraging books. May God bless you and lead you to write
many more. (Drummonds, Tennessee)
One of my Mom’s
favorite books was
Gutsy Little Flowers.
Mom died in February after a long illness, and as I held her hand I told
my Dad, Uncle, and our Pastor that she was a “gutsy little flower.” Her
beauty was delicate and simple just like those daffodils. For her funeral,
friends in Mom’s Sunday School class gathered all the newly-blooming daffodils
they could find and prepared huge and beautiful, simple arrangements of
daffodils, no bows or any other flower. Whenever I see daffodils each
February, I’ll always remember my “Gutsy Little Flower Momma.” With gratitude
for your
gift.
(Rome, Georgia)
You have a very special
way of communicating and sharing ministry. (Walhalla, South Carolina)
Thank you for your
delightful books! The contents make me laugh and cry . . . I know that more
volumes are inside you and I will be waiting. (Gulf Breeze, Florida)
I loved
Aging, Ailments, and
Attitudes! I was off
the day it arrived and I sat down outside on the patio and read the whole
thing that afternoon without stopping. I really think you have a great thing
here. The stories are priceless. (Newnan, Georgia)
What a great book.
Your humor and love for the Lord come through so clearly. I hope you’ll keep
writing. Let me know when you have a book-signing. I’d love to come.
(Tucker, Georgia)
I read your book with
my daughter, Clarissa. She especially enjoyed reading it. She would tell me,
“Mom, let me read you this story because it is so funny!” Any book that can
hold Clarissa’s attention must be a good book. Clarissa’s favorite story is
“The Bra Of My Dreams.” She can relate to that story as we all can.
(Wichita, Kansas)
I’m not sure if I had
more tears from the laughing or feeling you pain. Great books! (San
Antonio, Texas)
Many thanks for your
message . . . I enjoy reading your books and will probably read them several
times before putting them down. (Dalbo, Minnesota)
Thank you for all you
are in the lives of other women. Your talents and truths are refreshing.
(Woodstock, Georgia)
I have just returned
from attending your wonderful retreat. I just wanted you to know how much I
enjoyed meeting you and how much laughter you brought back into my life. My
daughter has enjoyed me reading your stories at night to her . . . We have
shared lots of laughs. Thanks for being such an honest, caring person who
struggles with us. (Lawrenceville, Georgia)
Cathy, my sister in
Christ, I thank you for the way you are winning souls for Christ. Keep up the
good work. May our Father in heaven bless you always. (Rome, Georgia)
Cathy’s gift of writing
shows in her knack for discovering deep spiritual truths in seemingly ordinary
events. She will give you insight into discovering both hilarity and strength
in your own
circumstances.
(Atlanta, Georgia)
My daughter and I both
fall asleep with books in our hands.
Silver in the Slop
has seen many nights that it was slept on, tossed and turned on, and
eventually kicked to the floor, so you know it’s a good book if it looks like
that. (Lexington, Kentucky)
I find you most
fascinating. (Thomaston, Georgia)
Just wanted to say
hello and thank you for coming up north and making a world of different in my
life. Every day I think about you and the stories of your own life. The
stories you told seem to make it easier for me on those days that are rough on
me. I knew the moment we met that we would become friends for life, bonded by
faith.
(Maumee, Ohio)
I have finished my book
on
Gutsy Little Flowers
and I'm starting on
Silver in the Slop. I
had to flip over and read about the Almond Joy. That is me up and down! It
brought a lot of humor to the office this morning as several of us are trying
the Weight Watcher program. I have your picture on my nightstand and one in
my reading area and I pray for you each time I see your smiling face. You are
loved by so many that come in contact with you. You leave a lasting impression
on everyone. (Knoxville, Tennessee)
Again Cathy Lee Philips
wowed our group. Our annual women's retreat was a success again this year due
to Cathy. She is wonderful and we would recommend her for any group. Please
use us as a reference. We love her!! (Alpharetta, Georgia)
Thank you for your
wonderful, sweet, down-to-earth personality you have allowed the Lord to
develop in you. You have blessed me SO much. (Birmingham, Alabama)
Our program “GIRL TALK”
WAS WONDERFUL. I have had nothing but wonderful reflections and comments.
They liked everything! Your work is just what was needed — something we could
all relate to, with the challenge to see each other as family — the family
God gives us — and to support each other in our good times and in our “slop.”
Your humorous presentation relaxes folks and allows them to listen and your
openness to just be who you are allows them to do the same. Thank you for
giving up your day (on a holiday weekend!) and coming our way. Your ministry
is just what the doctor ordered for the day and I can’t tell you enough how
appreciative we are! (Lawrenceville, Georgia)
Way to go, Cathy . . .
What an inspiration you are, not just to me but to so many you don’t even
know. . . See what your stories do! (Cleveland, Tennessee)
Know that you have made
a difference in 100s of people’s lives in ways you may never know. But I know
you made a difference in my life and I thank you for that. Keep being on the
cutting
edge.
(Pigeon Forge, Tennessee)
Cathy sure has a great
attitude about life, and when she doesn’t, she finds something positive in
all the simplest things. I’m sure she doesn’t know how she has inspired
people through her books, but I do love to hear her stories. She has taken
one of the most tragic happenings and turned it into a positive situation for
herself and many others. I am going to try to start looking at the glass as
half-full. (Lexington, Kentucky)
